Nõmme Female Choir of teachers was started in the early springtime of 2008, when nature sprouted and birds started singing.
The idea to set up a choir with a membership formed by singing teachers had already come up several years ago, but for one reason or another, it had not come into being.
On the initiative of some active kindergarten teachers of "Rabarüblik" in coorporation with the music teachers of Tallinn Paaskyla Gymnasium the idea was more seriously discussed. As a result, the teachers from Nomme schools and kindergartens interested in singing in the choir, were asked to gather together for the first meeting. Kadi Härma and Lilian Reinmets agreed to conduct the newborn choir. It was decided that the best name for it is Nõmme Female Choir of Teachers.
The rehearsals took and still take place once a week on Tuesday nights (6-8 p.m.). Everybody was eager to learn new songs and work at tuning as many of the members had not had any singing practice for years.
Little by little lovers of singing from other professions (doctors, accountants. etc.) joined our lines.
At first the most important goal was to be admitted to the Song Celebration of 2009. We are proud to state that we achieved this goal. Now we plan taking part in the next song celebration in 2014.
In 2010 one of the most important events was the singing day of female choirs in Rakvere.
We also performed in the event called "Memme-taadi päevad" (Grandparents' Days) at Rocca al Mare Open Air Museum in the summer 2011 and 2012.
The atmosphere inside the choir is really friendly. We do not only sing together but we also have our own traditions (e. g. celebrating bithdays). "Üks väike rõõm" ("A Little Joy") has become the song of our choir. By the way, several composers such as Tõnis Kõrvits and Piret Rips have been our quests.
Life without friends would be dull and boring. To make it more exciting, we have made friends with several other choirs. Among them are:
The Men's Choir of Teachers of Estonia with whom we have performed together at several Christmas and spring concerts.
Female choir "Krõõt" from Kose with whom we have traditionally concerts in February.
Female choir "Laululikat" from Finland who we visited in 2011. They have been our guests in Estonia more than once.
Female choir "Diaz" from Holland is our newest friendship choir. At the beginning of October 2012 they came to visit us and we had two concerts together. They also invited us to their country and in April 2013 we had a trip to Holland and gave two concerts together.
